The Hell Realm

It was a prefect day in the hell realm; a dust storm blew over the parched land while the blood red sun beat down mercilessly. For once it was a perfect day. None of the other creatures in this place of hell had caused grievance with the queen. The queen of the hell realm, a dragon fur as black as the deepest night, red chevrons marking down her back and golden rings around her four ankles, seven along her tail. The sunlight glinted off head-borne red and yellow horns as her sinuous body shifted on the sandstone rock her large, red tipped ears blown by the burning breeze. A perfect day.

Something always spoils it. Just as the queen banished the thought from her mind an explosion rocked the air nearby. Something soft landed on her head, bouncing to the ground. Looking down at the object she recognized it instantly, the grey fur and long ears could only belong to one creature, Rix. The head stopped rolling around, the upper eye roved around wildly. “Ngyaaahahahaha, yes, yes, yes, wonderful.”

A soft scuttling noise announced the arrival of the blue twig, an odd little creature dressed in a hooded black robe. Taking hold of the rabbit’s ears it ran off dragging the still talking head behind it. “That was excellent, do it again, again, again! Ngyahahahahahaha!”

Though the intrusion had been unwelcome the black and red dragon could not help but smile. Claws on rocks and the padding of paws announced a new arrival. Snaking her head around the looked upon her hellhound commander, a canine that stood the same height as a man it’s fur colour, like all the hellhounds of the queen’s army was black with red markings identical to those of the dragon herself. But this one had a glowing red pentagram burned on its forehead the queens mark of her generals.

Though incapable of speech the hound’s mind was far superior, linking with that of its master the hound questioned her. “Shall we chase him from the hills, my queen?”

Preferring speech over telepathy the dragon answered with her sibilant voice. “No, it will take at least a day for the twigs to repair that damage. Until then, he cannot be chased.”

“Then we will chase him off tomorrow.”

“He would rather you caught him and tore him apart. Leave him be.”

“As you wish, My Lady.”

“Any other news of my creatures?”

“There are a few items of importance.”

The queen had to prompt her general.

“Well, My Lady, I suppose the most important one is that Cookie will need a new master.”

“Again? What happened this time?”

“We do not know how he died, but Cookie dragged him from the house and buried him. He was found sitting atop the grave with paper in mouth, waiting for his master’s hand, which was above the surface, to take it.”

“That was the fifth master he has slain. And have you found the portal he uses to get things like that paper?”

I’m afraid we haven’t, Lady Firedark. The scouts have been searching for three weeks and have found nothing.”

“Keep up that search. We cannot have him slaying something on Earth, Iybran would have my head if that happened.”

“But you cannot die, My Lady.”

“I know, and knowing Iybran he would probably not really care, seeing as nothing can die without his permission.” Firedark closed her eyes a moment as a sigh escaped her. “How I wish I had been given his job.”

“But you are the only one that can keep the beasts here in the hell realm in check.”

“That is true, there is only one beasts here that obeys Iybran over me.”

“The squirrel?”

“Correct. His jobs are as numerous as the rats.”

“About the rat’s, Lady.”

“What about them?”

“They’ve vanished from both plains and hills. Some have been spotted in the mountains but the rest, we do not know where they went.”

“What would cause them to vanish? Send patrols to the mountains, question the rats there and I want scouts sent to the swamps and islands. Find out what is happening and then report to me.”

“By your command.” The hellhound lowered its head in a bow before turning to bound off in a canter, leaving Firedark to ponder the possibilities of why the rats had vanished.
